Bob Sutton’s blog provides a fantastic reality check for when you begin to believe your own bullshit or suspect you’re slowly having your asshole boss defences corroded.
All professional managers in any corporate situation should have his blog close to hand in my opinion and I urge them to take the Asshole Rating Self-exam immediately!

I love this! However, the true certified assholes, who score 5+ (sadly I’ve known a couple and one truly toxic!), won’t take the test and if they did they’d lie about the answers (if only to themselves).

I think that the true asshole will answer “in character” the urge would be too strong.

That’s an interesting point of view; from my experience I think you’re right when it comes to the “toxic” characters, as they truly believe their own press. As for the others, I’m not so sure. I think they don’t know or cannot see it in themselves to answer the questions accurately – which is the problem in most cases, cos if they they could see it they wouldn’t do it. I would love to compare results via their employees and employers, 360 fashion, another website required me thinks or LinkedIn plug-in
